PETER MCNERNEY

JOURNALISM FOR RADIO, TV & SOCIAL MEDIA

        Peter McNerney, born in Sheffield, currently works as a freelance broadcaster and journalism tutor at Leeds Beckett University.  He has over thirty five years’ experience in the TV and Radio industry.

His career began at Radio Hallam in Sheffield where he reported, presented and edited the news. One of the major stories Peter worked on was “the year-long miners' strike”. He worked at Yorkshire Television, now ITV Yorkshire, for over twenty years as a reporter, newscaster and producer in the regional programmes department.

While he worked at ITV, he was the producer of the flagship daily news programme "Calendar". Another major story he covered as a reporter included the Hillsborough Disaster of 1989.

With the growth of video on the internet, Peter later worked as the Video Journalist for the expanding Yorkshire Post website. He self-shot, edited and uploaded hundreds of video reports over his five years at the influential daily newspaper. His current broadcasting portfolio includes bulletin reader at BBC Radio Sheffield and VJ for Made in Leeds TV, the local station for Leeds and the surrounding area.
